Fasting, Starving, Shaking, Waiting.

by Mr. Darcy   Sep 9, 2008

Fasting is casting its light over me.
A sacrifice, not nice, still I'm happy.
Throughout, no doubt, my belt buckled tight,
A prayer of care, raising dreams into sight.

Starving, demanding on body and soul
The Almighty, alrighty, keeps me whole.
Eating, feasting the Suhoor before dawn
A meal lends Zeal to the life I am born.

Shaking thus making an alluring plea.
Provoke, evoke, these luxuries tease.
Quaking, not taking such edible bliss
Heart stands fast with a venerated kiss.

Waiting, sedating seduces my hunger;
Rumbling, grumbling, stomach sounds thunder.
Abstaining is draining, but dusk is near;
Gratifying, glorifying Ramadan is here.

Written after a PM to Noor and receiving her message:

'I feel bored and cold. It is raining. It is Ramadan. No lunch break. Fasting. Starving. Shaking. Waiting.'

Thanks Noor for the inspiration. :)

    Michael,

    Ramadan is a time of contemplation, of retreat into silence and to be alone with your thoughts.
    Once the bodyfunctions slow down and the mind is not polluted with all the stuff one usually throws in his mouth just to make it through the day, thoughts become clear again.
    Most muslims I know enjoy this time of the year most of all, for it is a time of rebirth an renewal.
    Very nice to see a non-muslim post this!

    Hugs,
