Why Would You Let Me

by Deana   Sep 11, 2008

How can I teach you son
Make you understand
Sometimes one must bear the pain
Before he becomes a man

What can I give you son
To help you ease the pain
Erase the memories from your mind
Know you're not to blame

When can I reach you son
Violence is not the way
Within the darkness of your world
Before it is too late

Where can I lead you son
With strength to see you through
Everything you'll ever need
Is there inside of you

To the young men I work with.....they are all my sons.

    Deana,

For some reason all your work seems so familiar to me. It is like we have the same thoughts on many subjects. I too see so many young people just waisting their lives away. We try to reach them, before it is too late and sometimes we succeed, but a message can only be received when a person is willing to listen.
When you have tried all you could and then failed, you should not feel guilty..some people do not wish to be saved.
Such a meaningful poem, Deana...like all of yours are:)

    Deana,
I love the inspiring writes that you come up with. Little memoirs of how we all could lead a better life. It doesn't only go for the sons, but our daughters as well. There is a great message in this and the poem had a wonderful flow to it. I loved the questions it posed

^^^ I always tell my girls that sometimes we just have to deal with some pain. I know it's so hard to be a teenager this day and time and having the amount of peer pressure even makes it more difficult.

^^I have questioned this many times wondering what I could do to erase their pain. Sometimes it is necessary to evolve into a person that would be remarkable in society.

When can I reach you son
    Violence is not the way
Within the darkness of your world

^^ Violence is never the answer, education is. Learn everything and become equipped to fight with knowledge. It is the greatest power we can have to stop, prevent, and carry someone to another level

    Everything you'll ever need

^^ We are definitely role models for our children, Not just biological children but all children we come in contact with. They are fighting peer pressure and we can only aid them by being the secure thing in their life.

You have penned a beautiful poem here dear. I love the message and the flow. Great Job

This piece really hit home with me.

Where can I lead you son
With strength to see you through
    Everything you'll ever need
    Is there inside of you

All we can do is hope that they have learned all we taught them. As they become men they start to show their parents that all those things weren't in vain. Knowing you he will find everything inside himself. Your great!
    Love Cindy
