Reflections

by nobody truly knows me   Sep 14, 2008

Gaze into the mirror,
Take a long look.
You may be lying to yourself,
But to me you're an open book.

Do you even know who you've become?
With your false words,
Your double standards?
They've settled upon you like a curse.

You hide behind your mask,
Project a picture of perfection.
I wonder if behind your eyes,
You even recognize your reflection.

Don't you realize that you're killing yourself?
You're letting society win.
You conform yourself to their expectations,
And disregard how you're feeling within.

You paste a smile on your face,
Then lock away your tears.
Your heart has turned to stone,
Hardened over the years.

Are you satisfied with this illusion,
The one you've worked so hard to perfect?
Are you content with being a robot,
Or are you consumed by regret?
