I Have A Wire Face

by lonelynow   Sep 19, 2008

I have a wire face
Different fingers bend it to suit their needs
And push coloured paper through the gaps
To give me life

I have a wire face
Exaggerated features, grossly proportioned
Grin at strangers
Who shake their heads and whisper that it is not right

I have a wire face
My hands are bloody and scratched from fixing holes
Made from birds picking, pecking
To line their nest

I have a wire face
It has always been so
Taped and stapled and bent so many times
Bloodied and torn and not mine at all

Although if I were to change it, it would probably be to something like this:

    I have a wire face.

Different fingers bend it to suit their needs
And push colored paper through the gaps
    To give me life.

    Exaggerated features, grossly proportioned
    Grin at strangers,
Who shake their heads and whisper that it is not right.

My hands are bloody and scratched from fixing holes,
    Made from birds picking, pecking
    To line their nest.

    I have a wire face.

    It has always been so.
Taped and stapled and bent so many times,
Bloodied and torn and not mine at all.

    I have a wire face.

That's something to think about. I actually like your version a lot, but never thought about doing anything like that myself. Thank you very much for the help!

I found this poem interesting to read. However, I didn't think that the repitition really worked here. If you want to restate the 'I have a wire face' bit, then I would sugust putting it at the beginning and the end, and having that be it, so that it reads like this:

    I have a wire face.

Different fingers bend it to suit their needs
And push colored paper through the gaps
    To give me life

    Exaggerated features, grossly proportioned
    Grin at strangers
Who shake their heads and whisper that it is not right

My hands are bloody and scratched from fixing holes
    Made from birds picking, pecking
    To line their nest

    It has always been so
Taped and stapled and bent so many times
Bloodied and torn and not mine at all

    I have a wire face.

I also think that you need punctuation here. Without it, everything runs together, and it could confuse the reader.
You don't have to take my advice, they are merely suggustions. I won't rate this, because I try to rate something unless I'm going to give it a five.
