Feathers (El Viento)

by brie kelly wise   Sep 19, 2008

Time radiates with thought and the windshield gives into the seasons
Distance picks the ones who give up easily, they say
We were on our hands and knees longing for one perfect reason
A perfect reason for us to let the air pull us faster each day

As he comes to me and tells me his heart is breaking again
I wonder how he could never see what he did to me
He tells me he falls apart every time he bends
For me to hold him, he has to break for me to see

She stumbles close and tells me she gets more and more afraid
He left you, the alcohol goes down
She asks me why I never stayed
I tell her she chose not to stick around

And you, you tell me you cried yourself to sleep last night listening to Jersey
You say before you met me you were never scared
At least I'm not alone on this thing
But you say you know there's some forgiveness in there

It's sad that we all pass each other like strangers
I've given you my best but even that wasn't surface deep enough to stay
If you could only see how fragile we become when our purpose changes
You would know how hard we pull from the drift before it carries us away

You can never fit the glass back in the window
When a friend uses all they have to break in
And you can never rearrange the pillow
Once you've given all the feathers to the wind
