Just another soldier...

by Lone star   Sep 26, 2008

I stare at your picture
and miss your eyes
you look great in camo
but you had to say good bye

They took you away
and sent you that day
to a place far from here
and news came back
you were attacked

your military was looking
more like a cemetery.

More boxes came back
then soldiers that day
in the end they had a price to pay

I waited on the steps for that fateful call
I answered and began to bawl
They took you from me
Why couldn't they see

you were more then a soldier
....
You were my brother.

They work hard to defend us and deserve their place in our hearts for more than just soldiers. they are people too. and it takes a lot of courage to be able to pay that price for our freedom.

that was his sacrifice to give. grieve for his yes, but also honor what he gave his life for.

i liked this poem. it reminded me that our soldiers are not invincible and that there is a lot to be sacrificed for our freedom. it also kinda reminded me of my own poem "Picture Perfect". check it out if you like.

    well done, ~Ben
