Slipping Away

by BlackCherry   Sep 28, 2008

I once knew someone
who always used to smoke
He never could let it go
and always would cough and choke

He lost his family and job
Even his friends left him too
He was left in the darkness
And missed every "I love you"

All he had were his burdens
That he could never cast away.
He was chained, trapped and depressed
Until his very last day

There he lay in a hospital bed
letting out a mournful cry
I looked him in the eye,
Held his hand in mine and said,
"Please...please don't die.
