City Child

by Deana   Oct 1, 2008

Inner city child
concrete for your play
violence looms before your eyes
Neon lights the way

No flowers for your table bare
Or quiet in the night
Artists canvas, made of brick
Sad truth within your sight

Sounds of distant anger
Echos in your sleep
Corner courts, tomorrows dream
heroes of the street

Sadness in the eyes of youth
Painted on a wall
Graffitis wisdom, rest in peace
Memories of them all

Inner city child
Concrete for your play
If only I could give to you
Natures peace, for just one day!

I hear ya. Obama should take all these kids from the getto, the streets, the homeless kids and the gang bangers and put them on a dude ranch for a while. I really don't know if this is the answer but I do know that what we ar4e doing doing now to turn around our nations youth is not working. These are our future leaders people, If we don't guide them now then we have no one to blame but ourselves for how they turn out. Sorry about the rant.

What a sad poem. Very heart wrenching. It tears at the heart to know your words are so true. I'm sure you bring sunshine to many childrens days.
