Steady & Slow

by Countess of Monte Cristo   Oct 3, 2008

Feeling detached from this world
Feeling that you don't belong in this place
Thinking what is wrong with you
And staring into blank space?

What does it mean?
When you sit all day in your room
Feeling nothing but gloom?

What does it mean when you wish to sleep forever?
And not wake up to face this life
When you lose your mind
And think of using that knife?

What does it mean when you eat all those pills?
To die without pain.
And you feel you're senseless
And depressed and drained

What does it mean?
When all your suicide attempts have failed?
And that you kept on living
And God's wish prevailed?

Perhaps God wants you to stay
To become someone great
And to tell you no matter how much you tried
You can't escape your fate

Maybe happy endings are real
And are a little more than make-believe
You thought you'd be sad forever?
Oh, you're so naive

Go up to the mirror
And look at your eyes
Time to tell yourself
You have survived and it's not a surprise

Soon, the sight will be clear
And the blur will go away
Those dark nights of dread
Will be replaced by reassuring days

May the force be with you
Wherever you go
And don't forget the path to greatness
Is steady and slow.
