Slums vs. Stocks (senryu)

by Mr. Darcy   Oct 9, 2008

She sifts the decay
Risking her death for pittance
Solvents numb her pain

Wealth risked on a screen
Billions of pounds lost in stocks
A gun takes his pain.

I wanted to draw comparisons between these two very different worlds. Ironic really how similar they are. Below each is a link to there fuller stories.

Not Senryu. Just a pause for thought:

Work the fields
Or office block
Work Sundays
Cracking rocks

Bear in mind
One true voice
Care for you
That's your choice.

    Michael,

    How creative your mind works!
I know about kids sniffing glue:(
We all have our private hell in this life and it really doesn't matter much if we wear rags or diamonds.
I love what you have done here.
I will answer your unspoken question that you proposed to me in your comment to the
rictameter poem: some people have to grow up without the loving care of a mother, even if they do have the female person in their life that gave birth to them. Some come out hard and bitter. But others, like you and me, derive and return love from a source of it's own: the love for life and for our fellow men'.
Who planted the seed of love if not the parents? It's a mystery to me too, but I think it's best not to dwell upon that question and devote all of our time to the one thing that really matters: love.
    Bless you for caring:)

Hugs to you, my sweet friend

    5/5 Ingrid
