Before We Were Without

by brie kelly wise   Oct 11, 2008

Without the mirrors, what else will make us cry
Before the mirrors, I used to know who I was
Without my reflection, what else could make us blind
Before my reflection, I used to know where my beauty came from

Without love, what else will keep us from leaving
Before love, I knew all of the ways out of this town
With hope, what else will we call deceiving
Before hope, I used to think ghosts were the only invisible things around

Without gravity, how did we learn how to swing
Before gravity, I could lift myself far enough to fly
Without death, how did we learn how to let go of anything
Before death, I had no reason to cry
