Miss Massachusetts (lyrics)

by Chris Rodriguez   Oct 14, 2008

I tried to call you but my will is not so strong today
Here's my heart on a sleeve
It's been a long year
And it just got a little more lonelier

Thought I could leave her for the Autumn
But the flowers died
The rains coming down harder
In my tiny boat in an ocean full of concrete

But I'm gonna take my time
And sing beneath the storm
I'm gonna open the hatches
And try to get back on my feet

You'll be missed
Miss Massachusetts
It'll take time for you to see
When the world sees you
They'll only see a mystery
But you're not to me
Miss Massachusetts

I tried to tell you
But you wouldn't listen to my plea
Yea with my selfish ways
I've been so unfair
Placing you so easily into my heart

She had the season and the reason
Not to take me back
I'm just a loner now
I won't fight again
But please give me your promise

But I'm gonna take my time
And dance beneath the lights
Then I'm gonna loosen the ties
But you'll always be here inside

You'll be missed
Miss Massachusetts
I'll be here under the rain
But when they can't find me
I'll only be a mystery
But not to you
Miss Massachusetts

I love it when people post lyrics. I always feel like there's that extra element of creativity, because let's face it: you have a tune for this, even if it's only in your head. And lyrically it's very good, with a melancholy depth that demonstrates a number of emotions all blanketed by the theme of loss throughout.

If it's not overly critical of me, though, I would say that "more" in the fourth line seems a little extraneous, and the line "please give me your promise" doesn't seem to pertain to anyone or anything we've been introduced to anywhere else in the lyrics.

Those two points aside, this is great stuff. I'd love to hear it set to some melancholy lone guitar music. I'd also be interested what music you had in mind!
