Where were you?

by Jessica   Oct 23, 2008

I look out my window,

see a girl on a park bench.

She looks sad, and lonely,

as if she is waiting on someone.

She looks up at me.

The look in her brown, tear-filled eyes,

tells me exactly what happened.

She was waiting on him.

Him, whose green eyes stole her breath,

whose company made her smile,

the one who stole her heart,

and would never give it back.

She looked as though she had been waiting,

for quite sometime now.

Her hair was drenched and make-up smeared,

her dress clinging to her body.

It must be prom, I thought,

and he stood her up,

left her here waiting in the rain,

simply to mock the outcast.

It must be a joke, I think,

some rich cool kid being a jerk,

but just when I think that,

a blue pickup truck pulls up.

Her date had car trouble,

a flat tire on the side of the road,

not ten minutes away.

He was apologetic.

She smiles up at me,

as if to thank me for something.

I guess I kept her company,

and gave her hope.

Then, as if in a dream,

I turn around and realize,

that the girl is me.
