Lilli's Poem

by abi   Nov 16, 2008

I can see a little girl pink bunches in her hair,
Jumping around the garden, kicking leaves form here to there,
She turns her head toward me and sets herself to run,
Looking up the garden calling for her dad to come,
She slowly turns toward me, says "daddy what is wrong"
It's that I'll never get to see this as my little girl is gone.
Although the memories of her have withstood the years incurred,
If you look a little closer you see the face becomes all blurred,
So now she'll be much taller her character more bold,
But in my mind she's captured as a beautiful two year old.
I no longer see her smiling, her laughter not hear a sound,
Can't cheer her up when crying,
Or pick her up when fallen down,
No cuddles when she's clever,
Or kisses when she's good,
Can't chase away her nightmares just like a father should,
I know it's from my mistakes that the die was cast,
If only i could go back and wipe away the past,
Cause i guess she's quite grown up now and a proper little lady,
Just tell her that i love her if you see my little baby.

My brother wrote this for me in 15 minutes, it's about his daughter who had to be adopted as my brother wasn't able to take care of her due to drink problems, he's now fighting his demons and getting off the drink and I'm so proud of him! He's a brilliant poet and one day I'll give this to my niece when she's old enough to understand it! We're lucky one of our aunties stepped in and adopted my niece so she's still in our family and i have lots of contact with her thankfully!!! I wrote a poem back to my brother called Dan Dan's Poem please read it!!! x
