Our Promise

by Nic39uy   Dec 29, 2008

Were distant strangers
Yet we were closer than we thought
It was only a matter of time before
We would finally met each other
And realize how we were each others half

That day finally arrived, sooner than expected
It was at a friend's birthday party
At first glance, I knew you were the one
The one friend that I could never replaced
And be happy as long as you were around

Everything seem to be like a dream come true
We were always together at
School and at special events
But like all dreams, it must come to an end
One I wished that would last an eternity

Before that I made a promise of everlasting friendship
A promise I knew I couldn't keep but tried regardless
And the dreadful day came and our 4 year run ended
In a bitter and spiteful way
I was truly saddened that it had to end

Soon word reached my ears that you were wedded
Shocked, thinking it be me and you together
Yet happy that you found someone to love you
But I never recovered from our broken friendship
Always kept my heart only for you

Tragic news again reached my ears
News of your death, one I didn't expect
Your sister informed me of how you were always
Sad even with your husband, always reliving the past
Reminiscence of good memories with me

Upon last to see you, I placed one last kiss
On your forehead and left our promise letter
Showing you that after all this time I kept my promise
To always be friends with you...

And lastly, placed the ring I got
Which was going to be yours except
The night I was going to propose
Was the night it all ended between us...
