I Saw Love Crying As It Left Its Post

by Soulful Ensemble   Jan 5, 2009

The Nightingale was born one August evening
And on the 11th day of every month it rose
Just to die on one December morning
When it was just a few months close
Of turning into a Phoenix that glows.

On that cold December morning
When the stars had gone away
A warm breeze tried to wake the mourning
Spirits who were waiting for the month of May.

And on that month of May, love was to come
To embrace between two lovers who deserved it most.
But what happened was that love was gone
And it had quietly and slowly left its' post.

I saw the tears love poured as it walked away
Knowing deep down it shouldn't be that way
And feeling so cold and stiff like clay
With an abject frown that wouldn't go away.
I asked so kindly if it had to be that way
And used my words to try to sway
But love's eyes were turned that day
And as it carried the cross it went astray.

I'm left feeling that never-dying love;
The one that came to me one August eve
And ended after snow dropped from above
To quiet smiles that love received.

The nightingale drowning in the snow
Was quenched soon after five breaths
Before the phoenix could even glow
And awaken from the ashes of death.

I miss that nightingale that August sprang
Into a life that love ignored.
I put food by the window and let it hang
Hoping he'll come back for more.

If the phoenix rises from above
I'll thank him for all the love.
