Outside The Circle

by Krista   Jan 21, 2009

[Poem for an image contest.]

Watching from the shadows,
I can't help but think.
Why is everyone in the circle
the person who has made mistakes,
turned their lives around,
tried to make a change.
They all hold hands,
but mine are empty.

You can try to join this circle,
all you need is trust and love.
Apparently, I'm qualified for neither.
What has this world come to,
where we're all into groups?
I'm trying to fit in,
but I'm just not succeeding.
I can always try tomorrow.

So I walk back the next day,
hoping for the best,
expecting only the worst.
It's different than yesterday.
They welcome me with warm arms,
embraces that show they care.
I am accepted into this circle,
no longer an outsider.

Here's the image that inspired this poem.
