The sad girl

by Tangible heartache   Jan 21, 2009

Walking through the hall,
Every day I see this girl.
Her eyes looking at her feet,
Wishing she wasn't born to this world.

I never see her talk to people,
At lunch, she always sits alone.
No one pays her attention,
As she sits there texting on her phone.

Thick, black eyeliner hides her eyes,
And on her lips, plays a slight frown.
Ignoring the hurtful remarks,
And the rumors that bring her down.

She always wears long sleeved shirts,
To which I know hides her secret.
Sometimes I want to be her friend,
And to this day, I greatly regret.

On this cold winter morning,
The girl did not show up for class.
Guilt gripped at my beating heart,
As the cold hard truth grasped.

The teacher turned on the television,
To let us know today's updates.
But to our surprise, was a news report,
Of a fellow students gruesome fate.

"Last night at late midnight,
We found a girl's body in the river..."
My eyes wide in complete shock,
Made my whole body shiver.

Tuning out the rest of the story,
My heart sped up with guilt.
How could we have done such a thing?
Bringing down the girls esteem so theirs has built?

My eyes brimming with tears,
Threatening to fall down.
Glancing around, I noticed,
A lot of people crying, or with frowns.

We never gave her a chance,
Teasing her and calling her names.
So now people should think,
Before they play those hurtful "games."

Please do think about this poem. It's not nice to bring others down so you can build yourself up. Think before you say those hurtful words, you may never know how they hurt people. Sometimes someone isn't as strong as you think, and just a little remark can blow out that tiny little flame in their heart. Try building them up. Make that flame glow. Just don't be the cause of their hurt...trust me, we've all been there, or been apart of something like this. Either on one end, or the other. It's never good.
