Thinking things through

by Fredy   Mar 19, 2009

Sitting in a classroom thinking things through,
Wishing our reality wasn"t true.
Watching how kids don'?t join soccer teams but they join a crew.
Cripps and bloods
Paving different roads,
But coming from the same place.
We've fell out of grace.
Because we lack leadership,
Because the hole is too deep.
And we can't get out,
So we just wander about

I saw a 13 year old out of his house
Playing with the cops cat and mouse,
Chilling with the wrong crowd,
Showing he was proud
To be called a norteno,
Hating his brother because he was sureno.
Hanging out with that one friend
That swore he was going to be there till the end,
But was nowhere to be found when the cops came,
So he was left playing a lost game,
And his parents looked at him with shame.

And sometimes we wonder how we got here,
While smoking a blunt or holding a beer
While having half a step in jail,
No job, no money, no bail.
Left forgotten in a cell.
Broken and alone.
Thinking our life is done
And the chances have come and gone.

I'm still sitting in my class,
Which is more of what I can say from friends in the past.
Who are in a cold cell or a fresh grave.
Lil Jay, Spider and Crazy Dave,
All lost within a year,
Their mothers shed more than a tear.
And we're bound to be lost in a sea of confusion,
With no solution.

So we just wander about,
Not being able to get out,
Because the hole is too deep,
Because we lack leadership.
And we've fallen out of grace,
Because even though we come from the same place
We are paving different roads.
Divided between Cripps and Bloods.
I wish our reality wasn't true,
For here I am in my classroom thinking things through.
