The Dimmest Rays of Hope

by brie kelly wise   Mar 27, 2009

Dedicated to Lauren, Drue, Lize, Sam, Hunter, Emily and Jimmy
For we won't be in that place for long,
but while we're there, let's get some help.

It's an unbreakable day, so beautiful and strange
The blue sky a blanket covering your most vulnerable ways
Breaking free, along a long stretch of nothing but
The tall grass like butterflies tickling your eyes shut

And it's days like these that we long for the past
As if we could explore our long lost secrets so fast
It wasn't that long ago if you count by days
Sometimes they're like shooting stars leading the way

It's all the same when you're living in another world today
It's all you can do to stay the same
Only life is not beautiful when it's another task at hand
But it's the little chores that help us land

We're in the same spot, you and I
We're so young and so fragile with our little black eyes
I stand at the back for a million days
And you sit on the edge waiting to change

It take forever, we both know that by now
But this sick little world is spinning without sound
As we are turned and spun like little toys
We are in and out of places we will never enjoy

As the dimmest rays of hope, we saw with clarity then
Are brightening faster, and faster my friend
Let's go for a ride, get out of this place
Embrace this strange day for a great escape
