The price you had to pay

by JustJacq   Mar 28, 2009

I know you were proud of me for who I am,
I know you praised my talents like no one ever dared.

I know that we couldn't always agree,
Even though, you still loved me unconditionally.

I wish I could tell you I knew you well.
But just when I was about to discover the real you,
Time would not hear of it, that's what fate tells.

I wish this was easy for me to write,
I wish I could contain my tears and tell you I'm just fine.

You saw in me, what I neglected to see.
You were smarter than you led on,
that's the one thing I discovered eventually.

There's lots of things I still would like to say,
I regret the pain I caused you, when one day I walked away.
I regret I was not there, and couldn't utter a word when you were laying in bed
Paying the price for our families return.

I know you said you'd give everything you could,
Everything to get us back under the family hood.

Now we are together, all where we are supposed to be,
Together as family but not quite whole without you here.

--

Dedicated to my Gran, whom I only had a short period of time to get to know again.
