Daddy's Side Effect

by Free Bird   Apr 1, 2009

A baby girl
Was born into
This unforgiving world
On a hot day
In July.
Her father took her into
His arms as she took her first
Breath.
He held her,
The first time she cried.
Hazl eyes,
Just like her daddy.
Small feet and hands,
Seemed quite uncanny.
Never had this man
Felt unconditional love.
He stared at her
Just in awe of
This tiny being.
A small moment in his life,
The birth of his baby girl,
Changed everything he felt
About this cold, dark world.
Now years have passed,
For the man,
It feels like a lifetime.
The baby is now a woman,
But still she cries.
An unconditional love
No longer,
Links these two
Together.
They've both grown cold,
A side effect,
Of this unforgiving world.
The woman looks
At her daddy,
With her hazel eyes.
And remembers a time,
When they were filled
With Laughter.
There were only blue skies.
She beings to cry,
Although this time,
The woman keeps
The tears inside.
Because her daddy
Won't hold her
In his arms anymore.
A side effect
Of this
Dark,
Cold,
And Unforgiving
World
