It wasn't supposed to be this way
And it hurts to think that we're done

Maybe now you see what I saw
Through all those years
Only to wake up every morning
With dried up tears

I take no glory in your pain

But this was forced upon me
Not something I wanted to do

So go ahead and hate me
If it will make you feel better
But when you read these poems
Take in every letter

Trace them to the beginning
When we were two fools in love
Laughing outside all day long
As the rain fell from above

To where we are today
Beaten into a surrender
