The Tin (An Addiction)

by Italian Stallion   Jun 17, 2009

While hard at work, craving his addiction,
a sweet fragrance he can vividly smell.
Emitting a concentrated berry blend,
a shinny tin occupies his back pocket.

Removed; he took his tin, hitting it with his fingers
compacting the contents within, opened; he grabbed a pinch
securing it between his bottom lip and teeth,
then returned back to his awaiting sweaty job.

A voice pierced his ears, asking for some berry delight,
gently reaching he reproduced his tin.
Sharing similar mentalities of an addiction
their stress was released, with each spit they took.

A sigh of relief, a sigh of happiness released
as though they were eating sweet and bitter chocolate.
Rinsed, spit, and refreshed to a new batch,
a new tin of what they called, "the good stuff."

An addiction embodying mind over body,
an addiction disappeared in their eyes,
just a sweet sentimental flavoring of life...

[*This was a challenge made by Temps and Jen (Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden). The challenge was to write a poem on the topic of addiction. And had to be about at least two people sharing the same addiction.*]

I wont leave a extremely long comment or anything but want to let you know you did a awesome job with the challenge Jen and I gave you. You wrote about two people with the same addction of chewing tobacco. You did great with the emotions and feelings these people go through, how they long to have that chewing tobacco, the effects of it and how it makes them happy and releases their stress, and how it makes them feel. Anyone addicted to something would feel like its a way of releasing their stress and how it fills them with happiness. You captured this very nicely, I like the little challenge [if there even is one haha.. it was pretty straight forward] of figuring out what youre talking about here. But nonetheless you really did a great job and I'm proud of you. You took up the challenge and got an A+.

    Well done Joe -
