40 Weeks

by Sweet Disposition   Jun 21, 2009

Today makes it 40 weeks since you've been gone
280 days dragging on and on
Thunder storms and deafening waves
We know we've both seen better days
Without this niggle in the bone
Or lingering feeling of alone
Days when blood rushed to my dizzy head
As you loved me in that next best bed

Days when the sun crept through the falling rain
And your smile defeated all the pain

How do you gaze into her loving eyes,
Without thinking of our love's goodbyes?
Does she hold you like I never could?
Understand you how I understood?
Each question swimming in my soul
Answers needed now to make me whole
All the while I try to keep composure
As my heart cries out for final closure

I go on living life it seems
With endless wishes, hopes and dreams
Sweet fairytales and fantasies
Great wonders and the could-have-beens

What pains me most, is how you feel
Your smile for her is just not real
Yet even if you did confess,
Things would still remain a lover's mess
Nothing would change our situation
We'd still be slaves to infatuation

So I'll just watch as time floats by
And the hours tick from day to night
Til the day I'm mourning 40 years
Not 40 weeks of love-stained tears

And you'll just move from girl to girl
Yet feel your stomach twist and twirl
As word gets round of my new fate
And your love is 40 weeks too late
