Dying Memories

by Aubrey   Jun 29, 2009

I look up at another grey sky slowly as I lowered my head once more
The roses seem to speak as they sway their colorful heads
A silent tear rolls down my cheek as I realize what it reminded me of

His face flashed in a memory that once was
Dancing in the flowers just after dusk had settled over the earth
As he took my face within his hands and told me he loved me

The memory kept playing over in my mind like a broken cassette stuck on repeat
Over and over, the memory shifted from the dark skies to the swaying flowers
And it seemed like it was telling me that it would never happen again

I continued walking through old memories stomping newly forming ones as I went
Its not like it mattered anyways, they would end up like the first ones...
Broken dreams that never turned into reality, just another nightmare

A bloomed flower looked unfamiliar to me as I leaned down to pick it up
It looked as if it was wilting from the inside out slowing working its way down the stem
I soon saw that it was the image of my mind as I could see it

Slowly withering away on the inside unable to be viewed from the outside
I let the flower drop to the ground damaging the memories around it
I looked up at the grey sky once more and sighed realizing that's all my mind would ever be.

A hollow shell forging old memories into negative thoughts.
