Paranoia

by Elliott Lica   Jul 22, 2009

Have you ever noticed the shadowed faces,
The quiet snickers and sneers,
Have you ever felt that someone was watching you,
Or heard footsteps that were out of sync with your own?
But every time you turn to look, they are gone,
It is them, they are onto you, and now you cannot escape,
Why are they after you? How can you escape them?

Now that your eyes have been opened, what can you do?
If you ignore them, they will get you, you have only one choice,
You must fight them, but they are everywhere,
Passing you on the streets, sitting next to you in class,
Silently spying, even in your home, watching you sleep,
You can hear them breathing in the shadows, they are always just out of sight,
They speak nonsense, they try to confuse you, and close your eyes,

Could it be that you are going mad?
No, that is exactly what they want you to think,
They begin to taunt you, by making you believe that you have friends,
But surely enough you will see, bad things begin happening,
And when you ask for help, those friends were illusions,
Suddenly rumors of you begin to stur, but they never mention you.
Silently they speak behind your back, these people in black,

Accidents begin to occur, and you're to blame,
This is not simply coincidence you begin to see,
This is a conspiracy conjured by them, they want you gone,
You seclude yourself in a place you feel safe, only leaving when you must,
You set traps, and keep an eye on your back, no one can be trusted,
They could be anyone, Family is not excluded from them,

Finally you find something, a way to escape them,
Your sanctuary has been tainted by them,
They have found you again, but you now know,
You tie a rope to a hanger on the ceiling,
The other end becomes a slipknot, which rests around your neck,
You have been chuckling a lot lately,
It seems that you have caught the laughing bug,
You laugh loud in victory as you kick out the stool,
You hang there, slowly escaping them,
Just before you sleep, they appear all around you,
Smiling in amusement and satisfaction,
You suddenly realize that you have done exactly as they had wished,
They have won, and you become another victim of them
