Shameless Father

by Jesslyn   Oct 11, 2009

My phone starts to vibrate
i look and oh great
It's my daughter again
I'm losing a battle I could win
It's true, me, she does adore
Still I press ignore.
Yes, I am a shameless father,
I just can't be bothered
To hear about her day at school,
God, I am such a fool.
It shakes again, a voicemail,
and takes the wind from my sail.
Before I rush away
I'll listen to what she has to say.
I press one and hold the phone to my ear
And this is what I hear:
"Hi Daddy, it's just me.
I know you probably didn't see
That yesterday was my birthday,
You missed it but it's okay,
I'll have another one next year,
Maybe then you can be here.
Well you can call me too.
Bye Daddy, I love you."
I press delete
and stare at my feet
like the many times I've lied
I'll just tell her i tried
many times to call
When I never have at all....
