Mom, Go Away

by jocelyn   Dec 2, 2009

Forget about me
Have fun
Go out to your parties
Drink vodka and tequila
Visit all the bars
Have fun.

Don't worry about your kids
You can miss their activities
You can dismiss their feelings.
"Mom! Don't forget my...
Basketball games...
Track meets...
Soccer games...
Parent/Teacher meetings...
Competitions..."

It's alright
Go have fun
Your not needed
Hell,
Don't even come home.

Your kids have learned
They're just not as important
They know you don't listen.
"Mom!...
I don't have lunch money again...
I crashed my car...
I'm going off to war...
I'm going out...
I'm getting drunk...
I'm following your footsteps..."

No, they know you don't listen
Not until it's too late.
"Mrs. Caro, I'm sorry to say...
Your son was found digging through trash for food and social services is taking him...
Your daughter was drunk driving and crashed into another vehicle, she's in custody for DUI and manslaughter...
Your child died serving their country. I'm sorry for your loss..."

By then it's too late
You've lost everything
I'd hoped it wouldn't come this far.

So mom,
I have one thing to say
Go Away.

Signed,
GySgt SANTOS
Formerly CARO
Formerly your daughter
