Thank you, She Wanted to Hear

by Crippled Wing   Dec 9, 2009

I'd be lying if I said she didn't have a big heart
Everything she ever does, you don't have to make her start
Naturally she is a caring and giving person
She would jump to help a problem as things begin to worsen

She would re-tar a shed
Instead of going to a tanning bed
She would rather fix a jeep in a snow storm
Just so her mom could be warm

These are just the few things she does
The only reason she needs is "Just because."
Sure she doesn't have to do it, but that's not the point.
She does it to prove she can do it
And she doesn't want to disappoint

She's happy to do it for no price to pay
She'd do it 24/7 every day

But there is one thing her heart starves for
One thing so easy it's not even a chore
"Thank you." Sincerely is all she wants to hear.
Which isn't much for a newfound engineer!

She just wants you to see her
But not hearing those words she longs for
Makes her still feel like a blur

Most people by now would say "Forget this labor."
But not her, she turns her most into more
She tries harder and harder.
Just so someone doesn't have to do it,
but years of doing so has given her soul quite a hit

A thank you is all she wants to hear...
Still invisible, her eyes begin to tear.
Is she not worth a simple "thank you" or "wow?"
If you were going to say it say it now.

...Before she disappears forever
Leaving behind a piece of her heart that was severed.

Don't worry, it's okay...at first she never even expected it
But she found that those few words helped her get through s***
Those words; so simply, made her feel useful
For a moment she's free and whole

So don't for a second think that she's mad
Just because you forgot to say it
Can't you see it's because her heart is hurting bad???

But never mind that now...
Because who's to say a simple thank you is that strong
It doesn't have the power to make you feel like you belong

But in a world that you feel invisible,
That's all you have to hold on to
And yet it has the power to kill when it's long overdo

Just remember one thing,
"Thank you." Was all she ever wanted to hear.
