Response to the Shepherd

by Rusheena   Dec 16, 2009

(My version of a response to a poem called "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd" written by Sir Walter Raleigh)

You say that love is forever.

But where is the now and never?

Where is the eternity of promises that shall keep us together?

However, I do long a man's warmth on those cold winter nights,

A dominant figure to secure me from fright

Who will comfort me until daylight.

Although you are neither rich nor promising,

I vow to be your one and only destined queen,

But there are stipulations to becoming king.

You must not disobey those Ten Commandments.

Nor ignore my calls of distress and frantic.

Then, I shall be truly yours

Until that faithful forever unfolds.

Our love story will continuously be told,

And if my turn is first; you must be bold.

For our love will live long past our breaths,

As it settles in every grove and heath.

Shepherd and Nymph until death.
