Lie With Me [Tanka]

by Rusheena   Mar 19, 2020

Let’s pretend that we
belong together and the
secrets we hide won’t
emerge and tear us apart,
revealing our skeletons.

Wow, welcome back, Rusheena! Seems like forever since I've seen you post on here.

The brevity worked so well in this piece, especially with the beautifully simple lines of "lie with me". That one request, that one hope to have things be alright. This reads as bittersweet, wanting it to still work out with this person, wanting to live a bit longer without the brutality of the secrets, without the bare bones yet. Wanting a bit more of time with this person...

Keep writing, will have to check out your other latest pieces!

Good to hear from you again. Yeah, it's been awhile, haha. I haven't written much up until recently. I actually took a long break, too long. But I'll be posting more new poems soon. Glad you liked this one.
