This place, where I can love you

by Mr Rhee   Dec 23, 2009

Look at you, sitting there, on the floor.
You're unwashed, and your clothes are filthy.
What have been doing, dear, to take
yourself to such a despicable state?
Don't you want to be good and clean
for our dinner tonight?

Why shy away, dear girl, from my hand?
Here, get up now, from that nasty floor.
Ahhh, yes, there your are. There you are.
Hmmm, why the sad look?
Aren't you ...happy? Here, in this place?
Away from all the fighting, and the yelling?

What's the matter? Don't you like it here?
I give you all that you need, don't I?
You have all that you could want.
Here, and here...and here.
You have fresh clothes, that you do not wear,
and excellent food, that you do not eat.

And look, you've this jeweled box,
for all of your precious...pretty...things.
...You fear me, don't you?
You tremble when I come to you,
and you wince when I reach for you.
Am I not handsome, and to your liking?

Would you rather that I...let you...leave...
this place, where I can take care of you?
This place, where I can love you,
and feed you, and give you gifts?
Would you want me to...unlock...this door, perhaps?
So that you can walk, freely, throughout?

Hmmmm. I think not, my dear one.
You...will not leave me...ever.
You will stay here, and you will love me,
for I am...perfection, in all that I do.
And I am the most perfect...man...for you,
and you are the most perfect woman...for me.

Don't ever think of leaving, or not loving me.
I give you life, so that you may cherish me.
I've made you my queen, to stand at my side,
and I can give you all that you desire.
You...are my dream, and your dreams...are
mine to make come true...all of them.

Consider, my sweet, if you cannot love me,
then I will take your life from this world.
I will slit you throat, and I will tear your
arms and legs from your little body.
You will watch me take your blood, and drink it,
and I will watch your life...drain...from your eyes.

I think the sharp constrast of the last stanza as compared to the gentile material seduction of the stanzas before it made the poem all the more interestingly dark
