Self-Imposed Misery

by Countess of Monte Cristo   Jan 12, 2010

That cigarette in your hands,
I hope it kills you quick.
And that world of self-imposed misery,
Will one day leave you all by yourself.

I don't understand people like you-
They invite trouble and sadness into their souls.
Making everything and everyone run away from them,
Just to prove that they can make it.

But it is a sign of weakness-
To be honest, what is there for you to prove?
You live as if you had a thousand years to live,
Not knowing all of it might end tomorrow.

Our souls are windows to the world-
It is we who look at life through ourselves.
Black or white- or whatever color you may choose,
That's how life will reflect back upon you.

I don't know how you live with yourself-
Watching you function even drains me of energy.
You did earn my unhesitating pity,
And I'm not sure you could be saved.

For i cannot pull you out of the hole you are in,
If you won't give me your hand.
And i can't lead you to the light,
When you're too blind to see you're in the dark.

My guess is, one day you will die alone,
For you drove everyone else away.
Even your own soul wants to run away from you,
And leave that world of self-imposed misery.

Smoke and inhale the cigarette,
For even you have given up on life.
That's why you cannot find happiness-
For you drove it away from you too.

*Some people's existence is just a waste of space. They do not deserve to live if their job is to make life miserable for themselves and others. This is dedicated to someone..

Self destructive people seem to take down the people who love and care about them. The sad thing is they usually don't realize or don't care if they do.

Wow such a deep poem of emotion and frustration. I must say I can relate to this--& am sure many of us know of someone who either smokes or drinks alcohol or something for that matter that is extremely harmful to their body & could kill them at any second -- yet they are so blind to realize it themselves & blind to realize how it effects the people around them. They definatly do just dig themselves into a darker , deeper hole that they may never escape from. They never reach happiness & they wonder why. I could totally connect with this poem... seems to me as if you took the words from my mouth. Awesome job.
