This Must Stop

by Stephanie Michelle   Jan 27, 2010

A little girl alone and cold
Stand outside your home
She looks inside your window
As you're talking on the phone

Turns away and continues on
She's walking down the street
There's not a place for her to go
So she follows numbing feet

Looking for a place to rest
That's absent of the cold
Though she's only eight years old
This life is getting old

Clothes are torn and hair astray
Nobody seems to care
Chins are turned away from her
To pretend she isn't there

How could you ignore a girl
Whose life has just begun
Though she begs and pleads
Your heart is cold, you help no one

So she walks on in hope
She wants to find a place to stay
But the frosty air turns her skin blue
Her soul it slips away

Huddled in a corner
As her breath begins to slow
Her lifeless little eyes, they close
Her soul begins to go

This world is not a place of love
It's drowning in our hate
The misery that swarms around
Destined the girl to fate

How many lives will exit Earth
without a chance to bloom
Before life's troubles hit us all
We need to change things. Soon.
