I Promised

by WakingFreedom   Feb 5, 2010

I promised you one day I will fly to you
With the wings of a seraph I shall glide
Upon the midnight blue sky and find you
Even the battles of self-brutality that you
did not love me when we were one will not
Last long they are just mere glimpses of
What I used to be, the scars may shine a
Story but the thoughts of them will be torn
Away, just like ripping them from a tattered
Old book that is in a condition of no further
Use.
I promised you one day I will walk right up to
You and hold you in my arms until everything is
Okay. Until everything is perfect again just like
In the story of princesses and princes, only we shall
Be king and queen of our own land, our own story
We can rule the world of our own imagination
And dance upon the dreary sunset that casts shadows
Of sorrow upon our rose covered walls and make them
Grow again with elegance and beauty like never
Before.
But I promised you today that I would love you forever
Until the light from the land disappears into eternity
Until time slips and falls through the broken ice and
Freezes and slowly passes away. I promised you
Today I would not love another the way I love you
With such intensity that it over powers me into a dance
Of joy and makes my heart leap out of my chest
Such as the dolphins in the sea of waters so blue
For now though, being apart is what we have
And the absence of love shall make it grow as a rose
Does in the light of the sun and in the fall of the rain
For now it is I shall see you soon

A rambling but wonderful love poem, filled with insecurity as if the love was going in one direction and you feel as if you are being used. Yet I would if I had been who you wrote the poem for or to have taken a deep breath and felt my heart beat faster and with meaning.

But I promised you today that I would love you forever
Until the light from the land disappears into eternity
Until time slips and falls through the broken ice and
    Freezes and slowly passes away.
    I promised you
Today I would not love another the way I love you
With such intensity that it over powers me into a dance
Of joy and makes my heart leap out of my chest.

Love is a wondrous thing that can pull emotions onto a page from a poets pen and bring tears to the eyes of both the reader and the writer.
I wish someone had written the words above for me.
