A Loveless Spring

by Soulful Ensemble   Apr 12, 2010

Loveless-- like a cold spring morning,
Lacking all the glory of the radiant sun.
I open my eyes with apathy
In lonesome remembrance of what's gone.
Somebody screams deeply in my mind
And its easy to remember,
Even in the quietude of March
That looks us from behind
Like Spring looks into Summer;
There is nothing that ever was so perfect
As our charming rose in bloom.

Faintly recalling months that passed
Is an irksome blunder
As it brings me too far back,
Into my own deepest thoughts,
Which I had long forgotten
Underneath the sun,
But which now spring back
Like traps placed long ago
That burn with clear sharpness
As the sting of a hornet
Through my heart that was already
Supposed to have bled prefusely
And turned ivory.

I stand back, agast, with fiery eyes
And think out loud: If you were here
I could burn through you just by gazing
And I wonder if you'd care or stand for it.
