Fish

by Antigone Jackson   Apr 13, 2010

I am a hooked fish, freshly out of water

dripping like a drenched dish towel

over the unknown lands,

Loosely hanging in the air,

like a spider suspended from it’s

magnificently woven web.

Piercing dagger to the lip,

like cupid’s arrow through the heart,

pulsating, penetrating,

tearing me from my ocean of innocence.

The blissful fisherman reeled me in with ease.

I gave up the fight before it even began...

I was helplessly subdued,

to this new oxygen filled world,

to the birds enchanting song,

the buzz of boastful bees.

I have no use for these gills that have kept me contained.

I have broken free from my waters of purity.
