Bare Existence

by Beautiful Chaos   Apr 20, 2010

Wilted rose, a kiss of death
That robbed me of my lover's breath
Upon his grave, so lonely, laid
Reminder of the love betrayed

The darkened sky, now holds no glimmer
Of those stars which used to shimmer
The moon, it hangs, as now I do
Alone with pain we can't subdue

Our ocean rocks with angry waves
For those who swim, into their graves
My heart, the same, so full of rage
Trapped inside this mortal cage

Sadistic sun, whispering wind
An ache that time cannot rescind
Night, now all that holds me here
In hopes my dreams will bring you near

    Jenn,

You know what I love about this piece.. The fierce rhyme. While the poem is of course filled with so much emotion.. the rhyme was raw and just rolled off my tongue.. I adored that about this poem. Really thick and intense. Usually i'm not a fan of a poem that rhymes because they can feel quite over-used.. but I didn't get that from this poem at all.

I loved the use of the sun and moon.. Sadistic sun what an awesome alliteration.. I liked how you juxtaposed these two elements of nature to create something dark. The other thing I enjoyed about this poem is how it can be interpreted in many different ways to the reader... While it mentions death, and graves and such, to me it could also be the metaphor for a relationship ending which is interesting.

    Another great read. -Mel
