Ageless

by Katy Nicholson   May 26, 2010

A lonely wood, its age is old
Leaves erode into the earth
Above the ground, a mushroom stands
A sign of mother nature's birth

Twisted branches coil on rocks
The sun illuminates the sky
But shadows still surround the wood
Its siblings growing tall and high

Little flowers, just in bloom
Smelling of a yummy treat
Singing is the only sound
Of birds that fly and chirp and tweet

Horsetail dances in the breeze
Bordering a graveled path
Withered weeds have broke the surface
Trampled by our human wrath

The lonely wood is old of age
But youth is present all around
Gracefully, the forest sways
Life through which the wood is found
