Shadows on the Beach

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 8, 2010

I never anticipated staying the night
under groggy stars and cloudless dark,
but this seasonal storm held us,
I didn't want to let go quite yet.
He shielded me.
Greedy waves were towering
over humble sand,
with no second chance.
We backed slowly
near the bottom cliff
where fears leaped
like wild newborn flames.
This time and place
I would have cowered
as if burying myself alive
could possibly be better.
The only difference
on this cold stabbing
midnight feast,
was you.
You had changed
and come around for me.
I no longer hid,
because when two
perfectly crafted hearts collide,
not even the growling ocean can break
such a powerful connection.
