Being Best Friends

by Farther From Here   Aug 16, 2010

They keep saying that the most cliche,
is the love between best friends.
They prance around with glorious smiles,
not even once noticing each other's stare.

They dance around the room, hand-in-hand,
hailing the beautiful music abound,
not even once noticing the firm but gentle hold,
of one another so caring.

They skip around the dirt ground, not minding the mess,
singing joyously to the sunshine so bright,
not even once noticing the timber of the other's voice;
the gratitude of their souls.

They grow old after years so quick,
learning to let go of the memories of old,
but still humming along to the rhythm
of the music once played.

They later fall apart with casual smiles
as they reminisce of yesterdays,
both knowing in their hearts,
it should never have been this way.

Soon after, they fall into the redundancy
of those different lives they've chose,
both knowing in their hearts,
things never should have been cast astray.

So sad it is, to have to let go
of what should have been.
The moments of bliss that
should have had continued to forever.

They keep saying that the most cliche,
is the love between best friends.
Because each of us know, they
were never meant to stay.
