Drunk Driver

by Clarise   Jan 1, 2011

He was at a party with his girlfriend,
He had had too many drinks,
But he didn’t care,
She walked up to him and asked if he wanted a ride home,
He just smiles and kissed her,
He told her no,
He could handle it,
It was only a few blocks,
He said he loved her then got in his car,
He sped through two red lights,
Then on the third one,
He hit a car that was crossing him from the right,
His head hit the dash,
And he flew through the window,
He had a few broken ribs and glass was smashed into his arm,
He looked for his car and found it nine yards away from him,
He looked at the other car but found it had gone over the ledge,
He felt warmth at his hands and looked down,
He saw a trail of blood leading up to a girl,
He looked closer,
And keeled over to vomit,
He looked back at the mangled girl and cried,
It was his girlfriend’s corpse at his feet,
He tried to get to her side,
But he had lost too much blood,
He past out before he could even muter I love you,
He woke in the hospital,
And vowed that once he was perfectly healthy,
He would kill himself,
Five months later,
He was released from the hospital,
He ran to his house,
He grabbed his M16,
And walked to her grave,
He kneel ed,
And asked her to forgive him,
He cried for the love he lost,
And the love he would soon reclaim,
He put his arm around the tombstone,
He muttered I love you,
Then he put the gun to his heart,
And pulled the trigger,
Later on that year his actual girlfriend would do the same,
It was in fact her mother, who had died in that crash,
She was in her mothers home town making arrangements,
Once she had learned her boyfriend was released,
She had driven back,
But only to find his tombstone next to her mothers,
She had cried everyday since that party,
But she shed her last tear,
She had her last breath of air,
She put the gun to heart,
Rapped her arm around her mother and boyfriends graves,
And pulled the trigger.
