Blame it on the rain

by Chelsey   Mar 9, 2011

Vividly embroidered into her mind,
she remembers everything from that moment
The moon was a crescent, the stars were aligned
mosquito's played ecstatically under the street light

Inch long droplets puddled her cheek,
he frowned and told her not to cry
As the sprinkles crashed upon her face
she blamed her tears on the rain

The next few weeks consisted of,
Hershey's chocolate and cherry Kool Aid
Fleece blanket tucked under her toes,
Audrey Hepburn movies in her DVD player

Her curtains drawn a little bit
just so she can see the water
form on her windowsill
Like they do above her cheek bone

She doesn't want to think of him,
he can't be her reason to cry
She takes the gloom of the gray skies
and blames the rain for her sorrow

Wow chels, very deep. I like the way you used the rain and the tear drops, worked very well. The imagery you penned here was so touching, like little clips from a movie when you see the girl just pouring her heart out but no one is around to see it. Just hiding away in her room with her comfort things ( chocolate, dvds etc )

Such a sad poem, and the strength it took to write this and pretend that everything was ok, relating to the title where the world will not know you cried because you blame it on the rain.

Does make me wonder about this person who hurt you so bad, and know one day they will not be worth a penny of your thoughts or ink.

Great work as always. Loved the title. x

I really love this poem. You wrote through emotion. It was well written with so much heart and soul in it.
