I Promise

by Sheree Speaks   Apr 19, 2011

Our hands touched,
But never closed all the way.

Always stayed up late talking,
Until we ran out of things to say.

You made me laugh to tears,
But the laughing has ceased and the tears are still here.

Maybe I never told you just how sweet it was to be in your arms,
And maybe we both fell victim to each others charms.

But what I always wanted came to my possession.
I opened up coyly, sharing my confession.

I had finally perfected what I was practicing what I wanted to be.
Did you really let me let you make a fool out of me?

We'll shake on the agreement for taking walks and being friends,
While you hunt for a replacement to make amends.

I felt the exuberant shine of being your star diminish.
No need to say anything, I can see that it is finished.

Before the thought of being lovers, we were irreplaceable friends.
And that is what I shall be until eternity ends.

I promise.

Sounded like the last entry in a diary you plan to put in the corner of your closet in hopes of forgetting, but not wanting to ever throw it away....Beautifully written!!
