Happiness

by Yakari Gabriel   May 25, 2011

Perhaps the mother
that deals with back
pain,whose wrist are sore
and bones are aching
only to get the weight
of unpaid bills of her shoulders
and for twenty four days
don't worry again.

Maybe,the judge
who earns so much..
yet has to conceal his choices,
and has to be careful where he goes.
such an admirable career
yet he is despised in the eyes of criminals.

Or the student,
who sacrifices parties
for the books
just to one day achieve
a decent living

The artist,
who has to be far from
those he loves just to do what
he loves

The kid,
that forces those vegetables
down his throat
just to earn his sweet dessert

The father that works
Three hundred something days
a year just to deserve those
Fifteen days of vacation

The addict,
who loses it all
for those few hours he is
up in the sky

We sacrifice so much,
for so little...

happiness is too expensive.

Yaki, the maturity in your poetry that has grown so much in the past couple months absolutely astounds me. You have reached a new level of maturity and wisdom in your life and you can definitely notice. You are growing into an important and strong woman, and it's so amazing to see the journey through your poetry.

This poem says so much. It's true, it seems like we sacrifice SO much for very little, but happiness isn't a little thing. We have to relish in the love of the little things, or we'll never truly get through the burdens you've posted throughout this poem :)

I absolutely love this and feel it had so much heart and emotion. VERY well done, Yaki.
