A Memory of Eden

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

Did I see an angel dancing
there beyond the cedar's shadow
Caught by a glance from eyes deceived
by the gleams and glamours
of this brooding woodland vale

Lost in this annointing moment I stand
transfixed with soul yearning
Searching for tomorrow's ardent hope
in verdures glowing hard and crystal bright
with the memories of Eden

In the distance a gathering
coiled sheets of engorged cloud
marching down a rainbowed sky
to breathe on this sighing land
with coruscating dances of raindrops

This dreamland caught and clenched
against realities cold dark clamour
here where an ancient veil parts
on vistas of the land's first trees
standing by a desert sea

where standing high the teachers
angels of the flowing wind and surf
in ships bound beyond horizon's edge
the cords of navigation held
creating ocean's roads with the stars

Guardians of the old wisdom
aged before the birth of Pyremid and Sphinx
There where the first grown Trees
shed the fruit of life and law
and humanity began the desecration

Now here are we on extinction's edge
Holders of the land's destruction
Porfane in word and deed
calling the land to ruin
while echoing cold whispers of denial
