Can We Ever Know

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

I will traverse the path that some may walk
Here in this place balanced
Between the step last taken
and the one to come
How do I know this step is true
and if the step is sure
Can we ever know
until we move on

I will repeat the words that some may speak
Here in place caught
Between the words now spoken
and the ones unsaid
How do I know this word is true
and if this word holds love
Can we ever know
until we hear

I will describe the sights now seen
Here in this place trapped
Between the light of morning
and the darks of night
How do I know this view is true
and if this sight holds warmth
Can we ever know
until the dawn

I will await the end of all
Here in this place transfixed
Between the promise of life
and the certainty of death
How do I know this hope is true
Can we ever know
until we die
