Lady of the Fallen Army

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

Lady of the Fallen Army
Hark you to the Herald's call
See your Soldiers in the trenches
Lying where you watched them fall
On this field where your enemy
Closed around you in the Sun
If you still could have your White Knights
Could your mating game be won

Now here you stand lost and alone
The enemy has won
Will you bow to conquest Lady
Or will they see you run
This game will all too soon be over
as your armies march away
Your Castle walls lie open now
and you have lost the day

You stood here with your courage
With your Bishops at your side
But this war may be much shorter now
As your Knights and Bishops died
Your soldiers now rest in peace
Now missing from your ranks
They can no longer aid your strategy
Or protect you on your flanks

You saw the Black Knight's challenge
You leaned to hear his call
With defences now so weakened
You are almost in his thrall
Oh Lady of the fallen Army
You now have no retreat
You stand weary from the battle
As your King admits defeat
