For the Lost and Lonely

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

Someone took a snort last week
felt the lift inside
as he drifted in the rain
Someone felt his heart grow light
as he pushed the needle in
to shake the pain
Someone was found in a deserted hall
his life now gone
He had taken his pain away

Someone left her school last week
her learning done
she walked down a darkened street
Someone sat in a flash car
to learn some more
not knowing who she might meet
Someone now has learned the score
her pimp on hand
to drive the hard lesson home

Someone stole a car last week
it seemed so much fun
to see how fast the world flies past
Someone met some friends last week
to go racing down
making the surge of pleasure last
Someone wrote off the car tonight
in blood and gore
His driving days now over

Someone got sent down last week
for a life of years
having killed in a gangland row
Someone heard the sentance out
he was taken down
an end to all his dealing now
Someone met his end tonight
as the knife slid home
his killer held a silent smile

Someone stretched her hand last week
for another glass
to make the lonliness subside
Someone gave up her final dream
for a better life
as she lived her life outside
Someone went to her grave last week
after years of drink
her body had no more to give

And someone laid his life last week
his spirit gone
from that place of final hope
And someone in a lonely place
took a final look
before spinning with a rope
Someone lies now in the ground
a futile loss
as the reaper counts one more
